She hadn't understood what the cashier said to her.
'Taschen?' she repeated, waiting for a response.
'Excuse me, I don't understand' she answered, thinking the word did sound vaguely familar.
'Would you like a bag?' said the cashier in English.
'Oh - yes please' she said, feeling the blood rise to her cheeks as she suddenly remembered her high school German lessons.
'Danke'
The cashier smiled at her warmly.
